Google designed a WordPress plugin specifically for making web stories with numerous design and animation resources to make it easier to publish content in this new format. What is WebStories?
Web stories, for those who don’t know, are clickable pages that are optimized for mobile, full-screen, and use AMP technology. Installing the Google Web Stories Plugin for WordPress
The Google Web Stories plugin for WordPress can be installed in one of two ways: through your admin panel’s plugin marketplace or by downloading the free beta plugin. Because this is a public beta plugin, the majority of the default options will be available.
The full version was released at the end of 2021. It offers improved stability, bug fixes, and performance, as well as animations and page attachment functionality. Because this is a beta version, you must manually install the file. To do so, follow the procedures below:
- Go to Plugins > Add New in the WordPress dashboard;
- Search for the Google Web Stories plugin.
- Now press the “Install” button;
- Click “Activate Plugin” after the message “Plugin installed successfully” appears.

The dashboard menu now includes a new item called Stories. You may view all of your stories here, as well as create new ones and experiment with different templates. Your tales will be shown here, where you can modify them, rename them, duplicate them, or delete them.
This is a post type that can be presented as tales and to which a link can be added to ordinary pages and posts.
Creating the Stories
When you click “make new tale,” an editor pops up, allowing you to use the editing tools. The size of the tales cannot be changed. You’re not alone if this reminds you of Canva. It works similarly and is just as simple to use.
You can add stuff to the page builder on the left. Images, texts, and forms are all included. Videos are also included in the images. The page creator is in the middle, and it offers tools for altering and publishing the tale. The text editing and design tools are on the right, and each element you add to the page is a separate layer.
Your media folder contains images and other items. Three dots appear as you hover over them. It is possible to alter or erase the image by clicking on these locations. You may also upload, sort, and search photographs and videos. You can add content to the story page by clicking on it.
Predefined buttons for creating headers, footers, and body text are available on the text tab. To add predetermined text to the image, click one of them or “add new text.”
To use the scaling tool, click on the text. Drag to resize or move the text to a new spot with the center click. This also brings up your right-hand tools, where you may adjust alignment, colors, size, location, layer, style, and so on.
You can also resize or reposition content by selecting multiple objects at once.
A square, circle, triangle, heart, star, pentagon, hexagon, and bubble are all included in the shapes tab. Change their colors, opacity, and sizes by dragging and dropping them into the page.
The title, publish settings, trash, copy, add a new page, undo, redo, a preview, and a grid view to see numerous pages at once are all found on the canvas. When you click on the content, you’ll see some drag-and-drop options for resizing and moving it. It also gives you more possibilities for right-hand design tools.
To examine alignment options, drag the content. To see the complete image, double-click the content and access the tools to change the zoom and alignment. You can resize and move the content to achieve the exact formatting you like.
The show controls for the element you clicked are tweaked by design. Choose a color for the page backdrop by clicking on it. This will bring up a color picker where you can change the background color.
Alignment, size and position, opacity, linkages, accessibility, and layers are all things that apply to pictures.
The “Document” tab offers the normal WordPress publishing choices as well as a few additional options. Save your work as a draft or make it public or private. Change the date, publisher logo, and cover image if necessary. Make the necessary changes to the URL and page feed. Set the automatic advance time and choose between automatic and manual.
The “Explore Templates” option shows you how to use templates in your tales. There are presently eight templates available to assist you in getting started. Multiple pages are included in the templates, so there are lots of designs to choose from.
Click on one to open the template, which will show you all of the pages inside. All of the pages can be changed and customized. Change any element by selecting it.
Publishing a Story
When you choose to publish the story, you’ll be allowed to see it or include it in a new post.
When you click on the story, it takes you to the front end of the page. Although all of the pages are viewable, only the one in the middle is entirely readable. To make it easier for visitors to share their experiences on the web, the website has sliders with arrows on the sides, a navigation bar beneath the page, a play or pause button in the top right corner, and a share button. Visitors can copy the URL by clicking the button.
Web Stories from Google WordPress is a fun way to get your website’s content out there. The tales are designed to seem like magazine pages and function as a slider.
